Abstract

Background and aims. Decreased expression of estrogen receptor (ER)β mRNA and protein in tumor versus normal tissues has been demonstrated in many cancer (breast, ovary, colon and prostate), suggesting that ERα and ERβ expression balance may have a key role in regulating cell biology. Recently, several study show that dendritic cells (DC), a powerful antigen-presenting cells, express ERα and that their function can be modulate by estrogens. Up to date no knowledge are available about ERβ expression on DC. Aims of this study were to analyse the ER α- and β-isoform expression in liver (L) and spleen (S) DC and the influence of α- and β-selective agonist on T cell proliferation activity of LDC.
