Abstract

Objective The aim of this study is to evaluate the expression of EphB2 protein in terminal rectum with congenital anorectal malformation(CAM) and to assess its clinical significance. Methods Specimens were obtained from 20 patients with CAM, and 8 normal controls. Expression of EphB2 was determined by SP immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. Results The expression of EphB2 was mainly located in the cytoplasm and cell membrane of the mucous layer by immunohistochemistry. The positive expression intensity of EphB2 proteins were significantly lower in the malformation group (30.43 ± 11.41) than in the control group (81.62 ± 20.45) by integrated optical density(IOD) (P<0.01). Conclusions There was decreased expression of EphB2 in the mucous layer of CAM. Results suggested that EphB2 Key words: Anus, abnormalities; Rectum, abnormalities; Receptor, EphB2
