Abstract

Objective: Regulation of uterine contractility at all stages in gestation is extremely important. The function of uterine activity depends on spontaneous contractions of the myometrial smooth muscle cells, triggered by incoming action potentials. Stimulation of proteinase-activated receptor-2 (PAR-2) has been shown to induce myometrial activity. This study wanted to 1) determine the expression of PAR-2 on rat myometrium at different times of the gestational cycle and 2) investigate how PAR-2 gestation-dependently interacts with a variety of uterine receptors known to modulate myometrial activity.
