Abstract

Objective To inspect the expression of Survivin and p27^kip1, investigate their relationship with the clinical feature of gallbladder cancer, and discuss the correlation between them. Methods In 50 specimens of gallbladder cancer, 20 specimens of chronic cholecystitis, 20 specimens of polypoid lesions of gallbladder (PLG), the expression of Survivin and p27^kip1 were detected by using immnnohistochemistry assay. Results In 50 cases of gallbladder cancer, 39 cases expressed Survivin, and 22 cases expressed p27^kip1. There was a negative correlation between the expression of p27 and survivin (P〈0. 05) ; Of the 39 Survivin positive cases, 13 cases were positive for the expression of p27^kip1 ; Survivin sas not detected in chronic cholecystitis and PLG, but p27^kip1 was highest expressive in chronic choleeystitis and PLG; The expression of Survivin in gallbladder cancer had no association with the patients'age and gender, the pathological grade, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis of gallbladder cancer (P〉0. 05), but the expression of p27^kip1 was related to the pathological grade, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis of gallbladder cancer (P〈0. 05), and had no association with the patients'age and gender. Conclusions Abnormal expression of survivin and p27^kip1 may interact with each other. The excessive expression of Survivin in gallbladder cancer indicates that it could be correlated with the occurrence of carcinoma. The expression of p27^kip1 might be related to the carcinogenesis and development and p27^kip1 might become one of efficient target of judging prognosis of gallbladder carcinoma. Key words: Gallbladder neoplasms; p27^kip1 ; Survivin; Immunohistochemistry
