Abstract

Purpose: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common musculoskeletal disorder. It is characterized by pain, functional impairment, cartilage destruction, subchondral bone remodelling and excessive production of inflammatory and catabolic responses. There is currently no effective treatment to prevent or stop the progression of OA and the primary goal is to alleviate pain and other associated symptoms. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a pro-inflammatory eicosanoid, plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of OA.
