Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of chitinase-3-like protein 1 (CHI3L1) expression of tissue samples in estimating the prognosis of gallbladder cancer. Methods The CHI3L1 protein expression in tumor tissue was measured by immunohistochemistry in 65 patients with gallbladder cancer. The differences of CHI3L1 protein expression was compared in the parameters of sex, age, tumor diameter, cholecystolithiasis, growth pattern, the amount of transferred lymph nodes, distant metastasis, vascular invasion, lymphatic invasion, neural invasion and TNM stage. Results The CHI3L1 protein expression in patients with gallbladder cancer was higher than that in healthy controls (4.45 ± 1.20 vs.0.55 ± 0.94,P < 0.05).Clinic pathological analysis showed that positive CHI3L1 expression was significantly associated with growth pattern, the amount of transferred lymph nodes, distant metastasis and TNM stage (P < 0.05,respectively).Kaplan-Meier Survival Analysis showed that the overall survival was (13.0 ± 7.6) months in CHI3L1 positive patients versus (30.0 ± 6.4) months in CHI3L1 negative patients (P < 0.05).Conclusion The CHI3L1 protein expression in tumor tissue was correlative with prognosis of patients with gallbladder cancer. Key words: Gallbladder cancer; Chitinase-3-like protein 1 ; Invasion; Prognosis
