Abstract
In recent years, increasing global demand for lightweight, low-cost, and high-performance materials have shifted the industrial prime focus toward advanced materials. Aluminum Matrix Composites (AMC) are envisaged as lightweight and high-performance materials owing to their high specific strength, stiffness, hot hardness, and wear resistance. These materials and their alloys are extensively used in the automobile, aerospace, and defence industries. AA 7050 alloy is one of the special alloys amongst the AA-7xxx series that are widely used for structural components in advanced industries. However, the use of AA 7050 alloys is restricted due to specific requirements of higher mechanical and tribological properties. The present work aims to give an overview of different AMC manufacturing processes and outlines the effects of different types of micro and nano reinforcements, and their strengthening mechanism on mechanical and tribological properties of AA 7050 matrix composite (MMC).
