Abstract

Abstract The threshold exponents of anomalous soft-X-ray absorption spectra of Li, Na, Mg, Al, K, Rb and Cs in the theory of Nozieres and De Dominicis (ND) are reported. Following the theory of ND, the exponents are obtained by calculating the phase shifts of the conduction electrons due to the presence of the inner-shell hole in the final state of absorption. By the Born approximation of the distorted waves, firstly the characteristics of the wave function in solids, secondly realistic structures of the inner-shell holes in the hole potential and thirdly the effect of the screening of conduction electrons are taken into account. The exchange effects are involved in the hole potential from the beginning in the primitive form of the local-density approximation.
