Abstract Some results of calculations of element synthesis within bodies which expand rapidly from very high temperatures are presented. It is found that very fast expansions [V-'dV/dt> 1O~ ~j (24irGp)] and initial neutron-proton equality (I X~ - X~ I o < 0.1 per cent) produce the most realistic abundances. For baryon densities p~ = (10~ - 1O~) (T/109 ° K)3 g cm3, these abundances are in qualitative agreement with those observed in the oldest stars, if they contain appreciable helium. In addition, the ratios among the elements and isotopes heavier than boron resemble solar-system abundances Publication: The Astrophysical Journal Pub Date: March 1968 DOI: 10.1086/180152 Bibcode: 1968ApJ...151L.103W full text sources ADS |
