Abstract

With today's high prices and severely corrosive environments, explosion bonding offers the strength and economy of one metal and the corrosion resistance of another. It is the only known process for obtaining a metallurgical bond between dissimilar metals such as titanium and steel, and it does not significantly after the properties of either metal. Clad plates have been hot and cold formed successfully by conventional shop techniques, and weld designs have been established for both compatible and non-compatible metal systems. Detaclad has found wide acceptance in many industries, including the petroleum, petrochemical, and chemical processing industries, where it meets specific requirements for high temperatures and pressures, vacuum service, thermal cycling, and high heat transfer.
