Abstract
Emerging technologies and new media enable translators to become smarter and more professional while their subjectivity is confronted with new challenges. In the context of the digital age, translators are required to strengthen the practical interaction with the audience and give full play to their subjectivity. This study takes Chinese Doctors, the first Chinese film to record the COVID-19 epidemic, as the research object, and uses multimodal discourse analysis as the theoretical framework to analyze how translators can realize their subjectivity in audiovisual translation from four aspects: culture, context, content and expression. It can be found that by coordinating various modes, the translators exercise their subjectivity to the full play in accordance with the plot development, thus improving the overseas audience’s understanding and recognition of Chinese audiovisual works and facilitating Chinese culture to go abroad.
