Abstract

ABSTRACT The maritime sector plays a critical role in facilitating the transportation of goods and services in Bangladesh, the Port of Chittagong serves as the principal port for the country. However, there has been a concerning increase in accidents at seaports, raising concerns among industry stakeholders. To address this issue, the present study focuses on accident reduction specifically within the Chittagong Port and its outer anchorage in Bangladesh. To conduct the research, a descriptive survey research design was adopted, involving a sample size of one hundred (100) employees from Chittagong Port. Firstly, there was a significant relationship between operational risk management and accident reduction, evidenced by an r2 value of .858, with a p-value of less than .005. This highlights the importance of effective risk management strategies for mitigating accidents. Secondly, the study demonstrated a significant relationship between maritime safety and accident reduction, with an r2 value of .611. This emphasises the role of maritime safety in minimising employee accidents. Lastly, the study uncovered a significant relationship between simulation training and assessment and accident reduction, with an r2 value of .810. This underscores the value of simulation-based training programs in equipping employees with the necessary knowledge and skills to reduce accidents.
