Abstract

-Meta-learning has emerged as a powerful technique for enabling machines to learn to learn. It enables algorithms to leverage past experience and adapt to new tasks with limited labeled data. In natural language processing (NLP), meta-learning has been shown to improve the performance of models on a range of tasks. However, the full potential of meta-learning in NLP has not been explored. In this paper, we review recent work on meta-learning in NLP and propose new research directions to further explore the potential of this technique. Specifically, we investigate the use of meta-learning for few-shot learning, domain adaptation, and cross-lingual learning. We also explore the challenges associated with meta- learning in NLP, such as the choice of meta-features and the need for large-scale meta-learning datasets. Our experiments demonstrate that meta-learning has the potential to significantly improve the performance of NLP models, particularly on low-resource and cross-lingual tasks.
