Abstract

This essay offers an encouraging outlook for the future and analyzes some issues that received less attention in the other essays, such as the decline of established Christianity in the non-Western world and the rise of Pentecostalism. Statistical data, helpful as it is, cannot measure the actual lived faith of people who experience faith in their innermost being. Furthermore, the growth of Christianity in the non-Western world should be analyzed with a differentiated diagnosis, some developments being rather problematic. Koepping encourages us to follow the advice of Teresa of Avila, to trust in God even when our churches are shrinking.
