Abstract

This study aims to explore the eating-out experience of people with vision impairment (VI) with the persona method. People with VI are not privileged with information due to limited accessibility. Previous studies have suggested kiosks are the main barrier in the eating-out experience of people with VI. However, the quality of the experience of people with VI has not changed with accessible kiosks in the market. Researchers recruited seven people with VI and low vision for one-to-one in-depth interviews. The researchers created four personas and user journey maps to present critical points in each stage of the eating-out experience. Four major themes in the eating experience are created: 1) expanding accessible information, 2) autonomous behaviors and choices, 3) depending on people without disabilities, 4) people’s attitude toward people with VI. The result suggests future research must seek an alternative to providing people with VI with proper means of accessibility.
