Abstract

Different socio-cultural groups may engage with and respond to diversity and inclusion initiatives in different ways. As a result, diversity and inclusion initiatives may actually perpetuate continued inequalities, regardless of the intentions of an organization, raising important question about what diversity and inclusion initiatives should look like. This highlights the critical – but all too often unclear or under recognized – connection between the fields of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and business ethics research. In this presenter symposium, we explore the DEI-business ethics interface via five current projects that clarify this research interface and clarify how different socio-cultural groups of employees engage with or respond to diversity and inclusion initiatives.
