Abstract

This paper examines the development of a contemporary sociology of culture as articulated in the diverse works of Jean Baudrillard, Michel Foucault, Claude Lévi-Strauss, Jacques Lacan, Louis Althusser, and Pierre Bourdieu. After assessing the distinct arguments of these sociologists and philosophers as related to the concept of contemporary culture, their convergence with contemporary social and political theory is explored.
