Abstract

Social media is a growing dynamism in today’s world as policy and decision makers try finding ways to get benefit from it. It produces an enormous amount of data that is considered as great source of data for knowledge discovery. The purpose of this research is to quantitatively illustrate the potential of social media in educating students of higher secondary schools, colleges or universities. The real data of students belonging to considered education levels has been collected. Two parallel methods have been applied: 1) statistical analysis of collected data and 2) knowledge discovery through data-driven approaches. It has been explored and quantitatively demonstrated that timings of social media usage, number of hours spent, social media activities, and other factors have influential role towards academic activities of students. Further, it has been also revealed that educational activities can be promoted through social media to attract students as they spend a major portion of their time on social activities.
