Abstract

Protection Motivation Theory(PMT) was applied as a theoretical model to predict the process of behavioral change in restaurant managers’ towards transitioning to eco-friendly operations, considering their perception and attitudes in the threatening situation of climate change anxiety. Our results showed that climate change anxiety had a significant effect on both threat evaluation and coping evaluation. Further, only factors, perceived severity of threat evaluation and self-efficacy of coping evaluation, exhibited a significant effect on protection motivation. In addition, the moderating effect of ascribed responsibility was found to be significant in the impact of perceived severity, response efficacy, and self-efficacy on protection motivation. Our findings can be employed to provide useful information to develop effective strategies for promoting restaurant managers’ towards transitioning to eco-friendly operations.
