Abstract

Two basic questions have been asked to take forward the ambit of CSR activities to the new dimension in this research paper. First, the business image of CSR is based on its innovation capabilities. Secondly, key developmental needs in geographical region are essential to identify for CSR success; hence health and education related CSR activities considered very crucial CSR activities in developing nations. Considering these two theoretical questions we have conducted in depth empirical case study of manufacturing companies to explore developmental activities that are mostly carried out by them; subsequently, we have explored innovative CSR activities out of identified CSR activity. Analysis of public sector and the private sector companies CSR activities are carried out for this purpose. We have gathered the information from non-western work culture; hence, this study is away from European/American context and focus on Indian context. Findings revealed companies are giving first and third priority for education and health activities respectively. Some companies innovated CSR activity that serves as a benchmark for others; whereas, other companies need to jump in to innovative CSR activities that are very essential for its stakeholders. Education related CSR activities are most widely used by both public and private organizations. This paper is appropriate for practitioners who want to do CSR in India and have no or little experience or only have experience outside of India and wants to understand the various CSR activities.
