Abstract

The article explores the experimental analysis of heat transfer enhancement, friction factor and thermal performance of a dimpled tube heat exchanger equipped with regularly spaced twisted tape inserts. The experiments are conducted with water as a working medium and Reynolds number variation from 4,200 to 16,000. The twisted tapes with full length of three different twist ratios(y/D=2, 3, 4), regularly spaced twisted tapes with same twist ratios and two different free space ratios(s/D=4.5, 9.0) equipped with dimpled tube with two pitch ratios (P=1.5, 3.0) are tested in heat exchanger. The results obtained for dimpled tube equipped with regularly spaced twisted tapes are compared with the results for with and without twisted tapes. Also comparison is made with plain tube. It is observed that full length twisted equipped in dimpled tube performs better than any other combination of dimpled tube heat exchanger.
