Abstract

This article will conclude our series. Eating (and drinking) a healthy diet that is varied is the best way to ensure beneficial nutrients and minerals are consumed. Pregnancy is a dynamic state involving multiple adaptations that are needed to support the wellbeing of the woman and growth and development of the fetus, and therefore a varied diet is essential, but two food supplements are also advised. This article will focus on these: folic acid and vitamin D supplementation. A further critique of the Healthy Start scheme will also be covered. Lastly, it brings together the information from the previous papers to complete the series.
