• Efficacy levels of teachers of examinable VCE Physical Education were investigated. • VCE Physical Education teachers had high efficacy levels in classroom management. • VCE Physical Education teacher efficacy was invariant of teaching experience. • Fostering of teacher efficacy for student engagement in this context is warranted.
