Abstract

Consumption of Chinese herbal or seeking medical treatment from a Chinese medicine practitioner (CMP) is quite common in Hong Kong. According to the statistics published by the Census and Statistics Department, there are 22% consulted with a healthcare professional, and 15% of these consultations involved Chinese medical practitioners. Generally, Chinese medicines are safe under proper use and supervision. Chinese herbal medicine such as “Aconitine” in the aconitum species dispense error or improper use causing the risk of poisoning. This commentary discusses the context of an incident, dispense error, or improper use of “Aconitine” and its difficulties, or concerns in some case studies, as well as the management for decisions taken and improvement of “Aconitine” dispense error.
