Abstract

In 1980 I visited Bushrangers Cave in order to assess its potential for inclusion within the research design of the newly founded Moreton Region Archaeological Project (MRAP) (see Hall 1980). At that time I was mainly interested in developing a regional chronology and thus sought sites which promised deeply stratified cultural deposits. Two subsequent visits to the site in 1981 confirmed initial positive impressions and exploratory excavation was undertaken between 3-10 February 1982. This paper reports on preliminary findings of that work and raises some general points bearing upon human occupation of the local area as well as the Moreton region as a whole.
