Abstract

In search of large-scale, sustainable and high-performance energy storage systems, potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) have attracted tremendous attention as a promising alternative to lithium-ion batteries. Nevertheless, the development of PIBs is still in infancy, and unremitting efforts are still essential. This review gives an overview of the research status of PIBs from the aspects of cathode, anode and electrolytes. The structural characteristics, potassium storage mechanisms and electrochemical properties are summarized. Furthermore, the problems faced by PIBs and the corresponding modification strategies have also been discussed. This work can not only provide a broad and in-depth understanding of PIBs, but also enlighten the further development of PIBs.
