Abstract

ABSTRACT The automobile industries in India have transpired propitiously with development and industrialisation in the last few decades. The growth in the automobile sector has led to economic growth in the country but at the same time has appended to air pollution. The air pollution in highly populated cities like Delhi is unendurable for plant and animal life. Consequently, it is necessary to employ some emission reduction techniques, such as vehicular light weighting as an appropriate strategy, for the reduction of these emissions. The present study aims at overall vehicle weight reduction of running vehicle with the employment of the carpooling techniques in Delhi and substitution of prominent heavy materials in automobiles with GFR (glass fibre reinforced) composite synthesised during the study. The study also explores the energy-saving effects in respect of fuel consumption of the entire vehicular fleet of the city.
