Abstract

In this paper, the meaning of“worry” in ancient and modern time was discussed. With the use of basic theories of Chinese medicine theory and modern psychology, the contents of “worry” were identified, and the nature of“worry” was reconsidered. It was believed that the nature of“worry” is Qi stagnation, belonging to unpleasant or tense or calm endpoint in the emotions. In the TCM sense, “worry” belong to Yin in Yin-yang relation, and earth in five elements, corresponding to the spleen in the five Zang organs. “Worry” was closely linked to depression. We explored the nature of the “worry” to provide the basis for the study of depression in traditional Chinese medicine. Key words: Worry; Qi stagnation; TCM emotion
