Abstract

In Latin America, ever since the end of the 1990s, there have been architecture projects that problematize aspects of construction. Using instruments from tectonics, this paper tries to reflect on the role of constructability in several collaborations between Rafael Iglesia and Solano Benítez, who explored material and structural forms. It develops a critical approach towards design and production methods in contemporary architectural culture. The architects’ projects embody themes and problems that nourish the continuous formulation of a disciplinary knowledge that is sustained by artisans as well as exploratory, manual, and constructive work.
