Abstract

The ever-increasing demand for ubiquitous high- data rate services pushes the Telco operators to face high challenging requirements for supporting bandwidth-hungry applications and for ensuring service continuity when a user is moving over a wide area. To guarantee this, Mobile Satellite Services (MSSs), especially Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (MBMSs), have gained great importance. Therefore, in this paper we propose a novel Radio Resource Management scheme for the efficient allocation of radio resources when delivering multicast video flows in 5G Satellite systems. The proposed Satellite - Multicast Subgrouping Multiple Layers (S-MSML) scheme jointly exploits both the Multicast Subgrouping and the Scalable Video Coding (SVC) technique to provide a minimum required quality to all multicast users and enhanced video quality to users in good channel condition. Finally, the results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better performance than the Legacy approach when considering multiple multicast groups in all considered environments.
