Abstract

Based on the records of 70 participants in the Postgraduate Diploma in HRM, the purpose of this research note is to examine the influence on performance of gender, work experience, classification of undergraduate degree, type of undergraduate major and where it was obtained.Students with social sciences undergraduate majors, and/or with relevant experience performed significantly better than others. The classification of undergraduate degree and where the degree was obtained, as well as gender, did not influence academic performance.The paper empirically examines the relevance of work experience on academic performance and further calls for more research on the role of social sciences in HRM programmes.
