Abstract

In this issue of the Journal you will see how a study of reliability has put the notion of expertise on trial. A diagnosis of low back pain does not help us treat the patient, but there are classification systems that will help us determine how to care for these patients. The McKenzie system uses the categories of “derangement,” “dysfunction,” and “postural” syndromes to provide one guide for assessing and classifying patients who have low back pain, but is the McKenzie system reliable?
