Abstract
A rulebased language, called TSL (Task Scripting Language), operated through a communication management system, called Aide de Camp, is described. Both are designed to address the problems encountered, as a result of advances in modern communications, in industries that employ mobile distributed teams of workers, such as the mobile teams of engineers operated by the electricity supply industry. In particular TSL and Aide de Camp seek to address the negative effects of information overload and other problems experienced when modern communication techniques are applied to group working. The aim of TSL is to provide a cognitively accessible medium whereby Aide de Camp owners, who have no particular computer expertise, can write small, user specific, cooperative expert systems which they wish their Aide de Camp systems to perform. In particular these can be used to reduce many of the overheads associated with group working.
