Abstract
Death by suicide in Chile is not only a local problem, at a global level this phenomenon is suffered, where detecting it and treating it in time is fundamental. The present work was developed and implemented at the Center for Attention and Practical Activities of Psychology at the University of Tarapaca in Iquique, an Expert System based on rules, with the purpose of helping the decision making of psychology students who perform their professional practices at the center, in clinical cases of suicide risk. This allows the early detection of patients who present this behavior and evaluate the risk of suicide. The results of this work demonstrate the response capacity of the expert system developed, imitating the action of a specialist in this case detecting and assessing the risk of suicide in patients in consultations at the psychological center, achieving a good level of effectiveness.
