Abstract

Open learning is a flexible form of self-teaching which seeks to open up educational opportunities and meet individual needs. In the case of computer-based material, this approach can, however, lead to unstructured learning if no course guidance is available to the learner. The present paper reports on a prototype of an expert system which has been developed to address this issue. The system is part of an integrated software environment which comprises a computer-based course in nonlinear control systems, implemented in hypertext form, and a simulation package for practical work.
