Abstract

The main idea of the proposed auto-tuning control methodology is to apply SISO (Single-Input-Single Output) PID controllers with appropriate adaptation to the MIMO (Multi-Input-Multi-Output) environment. An expert tuning processor is to supervise the PID controller to provide good tuning parameters based on the observed MIMO response. A novel SISO process identification technique based on pattern recognition is described. Multivariable tuning is then activated using a detuning factor on the SISO settings. A new technique to identify the RDG (Relative Disturbance Gain) on-line is also included to assist the decision on tuning the controller upon natural load disturbances. Experimental results on the application of the auto-tuner are also included.
