Abstract

In the training of nursing students, the development of skills is essential, especially during clinical practice. One way of encouraging reflection is by making structured records of the episodes experienced. The analysis of a clinical practice in a neonatology setting is presented, with the aim of reflecting on the curricular clinical practice to develop skills and learning. The strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis tool was used as a methodology. It was possible to identify individual aspects (strengths: awareness of abilities and limitations, willingness to learn, ease of communication, the relationship with the nurse tutor; weaknesses: nervousness and fear) and environmental aspects (opportunities: organization of the service, diversity of experiences and safe environment; threats: language barriers and length of clinical practice). By reflecting on these aspects, based on the literature, it was possible to develop skills as a future nursing professional.
