Abstract
Ehrlich ascites tumor cells were treated after x irradiation with chloramphenicol, and the percentnge of abnormal anaphases was scored 15 hours after their reinoculation into mice. Over a dose range from 0 to 800 r given in nitrogen there was no significant difference between chloramphenicol-treated and untreated cells. If the cells were kept at 4 deg C for as long as 32 hours after irradiation, the appearance of the chromosome damage was delayed for a time corresponding to the length of time the cells were kept at low temperature, but the amoumt of chromosome damage was quantitatively unchanged. The same applied to cells kept at l9 deg C. No difference in the amount of chromosome damage was detected between cells kept in air or in nitrogen at 4 or 19 deg C for 10 hours after irradiation.
