Abstract

After the experimental demonstration of split-products of intact immun-globulins of the middle ear secretion the level of the intact immunglobulins IgG, IgA and IgM has been measured pre- and postoperatively. By these studies it could be demonstrated that particulary in cases of chronic otitis media associated with cholesteatoma the level of the intact immunglobulins is much more higher postoperatively than preoperatively. The liberation of serum proteinase inhibitors by injuring the bloodvessels during a tympanoplasty combined with appropriate antibiotic therapy causes a stabilisation of the inhibitory and immunological system. It is the purpose of further studies to inform about the capability of the split-products of the immunglobulins to attach and to absorb antigens and toxins during a chronic inflammation in the middle ear.
