Abstract

Using a high-resolution x-ray crystal diffraction spectrometer, x-ray line widths of the Kα1,2 lines of Fe, Co, Ni and Cu were analysed. Thereby, an evolutionary strategy was used for spectrum deconvolution to determine the life-time governed contributions to the line widths. On this basis, L2–L3X Coster–Kronig widths are calculated and assumptions about the energetics of radiationless transitions are derived. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
