Abstract

In order to verify the GDH sum rule for the first time the GDH-Collaboration measures the total photoabsorption cross section of circularly polarized real photons on longitudinally polarized nucleons in the photon energy range 0.14 – 3.1 GeV. These measurements are being pursued at the two electron accelerators M ami in Mainz and E lsa in Bonn. The experimental setup of the ongoing data taking campaign is described and results for the proton up to 1.9 GeV are presented.
