Abstract

(Int J Obstet Anesth. 2018;36:28–33) While epidural block is commonly used in obstetrics, it may be associated with a significant failure rate. Various devices have been designed in an attempt to aid in identification of the position of the epidural needle tip using visual or auditory end-points. The CompuFlo Instrument is a computer-controlled drug-delivery system which is able to distinguish different tissue types by measuring pressure at the tip of the needle in real time. This device provides audible signals and visual graphics of exit-pressure. This study aimed to determine whether the CompuFlo is suitable for difficult epidural placement as well as examined the utility of CompuFlo during epidural placement.
