Abstract

An experimental study was conducted to investigate the thermal ignition and combustion characteristics of liquid droplet of ammonium dinitramide based liquid propellant in different oxidizing gas atmospheres under different on-load voltages. The oxidizing gases included air, O2, N2O and NO. The ignition and combustion processes were recorded synchronously by two high speed cameras to catch the directly recorded images and schlieren images respectively. In order to explore the ignition and combustion process quantitatively, the ignition delay time, burning duration and the development of the droplets were analyzed.
