Abstract

In view of the shortcomings of the existing leakage monitoring methods for concrete face rockfill dams (CFRDs) in monitoring coverage, automation degree, location and quantitative accuracy of leakage, a temperature tracer method for leakage monitoring in CFRDs was proposed in this paper, and a leakage monitoring scheme with integrated point heat source (PHS) array and temperature sensor array was designed. The PHS array can implement multipoint distributed heating along a monitoring tube, and the temperature sensor array can monitor the temperature change law of each PHS during the cooling stage. To verify the effectiveness of this method, a model test for leakage monitoring in CFRDs was carried out, and the seepage failure characteristics near the leakage channels were analyzed. The location identification results of leakage are consistent with the actual situation, and the maximum error of the identification results of leakage flow is less than 10%.
