Abstract

We have measured the elastic-scattering cross-sections of muonic hydrogen and deuterium atoms against protons and deuterons, respectively. The results are δdd = (8.0 ± 2.0).10-20 cm2 (referring to μp atoms in the singlet state) and δpp = (1.49 ± 0.14).10-20 cm2. For (μp)1s atoms formed in gaseous hydrogen, renewed predictions are given on the lifetime τT of the triplet states as a function of pressure.
