Abstract

A series of physical model experiments with the use of a centrifuge are carried out to make clear the progressive failure process of rock slopes and the influence of discontinuities. The initiation of the progressive failure process, the stable-unstable transition and the limiting equilibrium have been discussed by monitoring the strain on the upper surface of the slope. It is pointed out that the stable-unstable transition may present a designing method of rock slope by the peak strength of the rock mass. The number of the covering abstract of the congress is TRIS no. 385148. (TRRL)
