Abstract

The berthing structures are built with diaphragm wall tied with piles. The location of the diaphragm wall either in the front or in the rear of the berthing structure depends on the soil condition, the width of the deck, and slope formed after dredging. Instead of the diaphragm wall, the pipe sheet pile wall can be used for its high bending strength and easy construction if the soil is very soft clay or very loose sand. Two configurations with pipe sheet pile wall in the front or in the rear connected to two rows of the pile for lateral mooring pull are studied for different dredge levels. The experimental study performed in cohesionless soil for both the configurations shows that the configuration with pipe sheet pile wall in front has two times more capacity with pipe sheet pile wall in the rear.
