Abstract
The objective of this paper is to experimentally study the possibility of using nanoparticles for repairing cracks and leaks generated in the well cement used in underground gas storage and acquisition. Several types of nanoparticles can be injected into the intact/distressed (aged) cement with the newly developed electro-migration method to repair wellbore leakage. The injection of nanoparticles is evaluated by the saturate-drying method, electric conductivity method, and BET method. After the injection, the decrease of chloride permeability can be captured, and nanoparticle agglomeration can be observed. In addition, the capability of extracting harmful ions from the cement is provided simultaneously during the injection of nanoparticles.
