Abstract

This paper aims to study the movement characteristics of DC air arc under different separation conditions. The movement characteristics of arc in the process of contact movement are studied by changing the contact movement mode and separation speed. A speed camera was used to capture the arc shape changes before the moving electrode reached the maximum opening distance. The arc image is processed by image processing technology. The image information was converted into numerical information, and the arcing area curve and arc root displacement curve were drawn according to the results to study the dynamic characteristics of DC arc under electrode rotation separation. The results show that the rotation separation method can accelerate the movement of arc root and increase the expansion rate of arc area. When the separation rate increased, it promoted the splitting of arc roots. With the increase of rotation speed, the micro-spots in the arc root are more likely to disperse, and the diameter of the cathode arc root is increased, which finally increases the arc burning area.KeywordsDirect Current (DC) air arcDynamic characteristicsImage processingRotate separation
