Abstract

Graphene oxide (GO) derivatives have popular applied in new materials and energy areas. Wastewater containing graphene oxide particles has to be treated due to biological hazards of the particles. Experimental investigation of radical reaction of the particles in water would suggest useful information to develop new effective methods for treating the GO wastewater. In this paper, a series of experiments were carried out for investigating effects of hydrogen and hydroxyl radicals on graphene oxide particles in water. Hydrogen radicals reduced soluble GO particles to generate photo-reduction GO, while ∙OH radicals oxidized soluble GO particles to give CO2 and H2O. This paper provides useful information for developing effective methods for treating the GO wastewater.
